I'm looking to buy a chainsaw with about 70-75cc. I have a Husqvarna 268xp, but it is wore out. I bought it 10 years ago and use it several days a week. Is Husqvarna still the leader in chainsaw production as it was when I bought the 268xp, or should I consider a Stihl.

Well, my wife just bought a Huskie sewing machine. When she told me what it cost, I said it better come with an 18" bar and some spare chains...

Wonder if Stihl makes a sewing machine?

Here in NC all the large logging companies use Huskies, and some of the smaller ones use Stihl. Most dealers are dropping Stihl in favor of Husqvarna here around Raleigh. Frank.

About 80% of the professional fallers
and buckers around here (Pacific Northwest)use
Husqvarna... most of the remaining 20% run Stihl

They are both basically fine saws. The nod is usually given to the Husky on the feeling that it has better torque at low rpm.

Personally, I think that some of the smaller
Stihl's (028 032 etc) are better than the Husky's
of the same size. In the bigger sizes (what you're looking for) the Husky really takes over.

My dad bought a stihl saw close to 30 years ago. Except for the time it fell off the wagon and got run over, (real ugly and blamed on yours truly) the saw never had any problems. So what does the wienie do? he goes and buys a husky! 7 years ago I bought a stihl 039 and for 4 years I cut 100 cords of firewood a year. Just after warranty was up(14 months after I bought saw) the crank bearings rod and piston went bad. I took it back to dealer and said I just bought ahouse last week and can't afford to fix this saw. He warrantied it, charged for a new bar chain and sprocket and I was back in buisness. I will never buy any other saw but a stihl again. Mike

Stay with Husky. I have 371s and they are great saws. Beats a Stihl 044 and 046. I don't think they make the 371xp anymore, but have replaced it with a 372xp which is basically the same in weight and hp.

xp saws r very good. not really much difference between stihl or xp. get what ever your local dealer sells as parts will be easy to obtain.

If you're considering the STIHL line, I have a STIHL 044 (24" blade) in excellent shape that I plan to sell. I bought a few chain saws in a package deal from a lady as part of an estate sale. Her husband drowned in a boating accident and she has been selling off his stuff since. This 044 is too much machine for my needs. I can provide you with a picture of it if you like. The saw was used very little as you can tell by the clear writing on the blade and the overall look of the saw. I was planning on putting it on EBAY later on this year before the firewood cutting season starts. The saw sells for around $700 at a Stihl dealer. I don't know what I'll ask for it, but will consider offers. Whoever ends up with this chain saw will basically be getting one in excellent condition without paying the new price. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks!

Actually I think either the Husky or Stihl are fine....but you might want to check out the Jonsereds. They are awfully nice looking and feeling saws. They are laid out like the Huskies.
The next time I buy a big saw I will prolly buy Jonsered (right now I am also using a Husky 268)

The Jonsered saws are built by Husky at the same plant. Many parts will exchange and are the same.
The problem with Jonsered in the USA is that there aren't many dealers, so just get a Husky,
