PTO failed and have to split tractor to fix. With current hoist setup I have 3 feet to roll front motor away from rear section.I have manual but it does not state if this will be enough room to get into the clutch.
While I am in there I will replace the drive clutch also. Any advise? THANKS

Here's a dumb question: Isn't the pto clutch on the 550 accessed by making the REAR split, not the front split at the front of the bellhousing??

Not on this tractor. The inspection plate to adjust the PTO clutch,Driver\Drivin plates that make up this unit is just behind the motor and
on bottom of tractor. I noticed the PTO clutch stopped working and when I pulled this inspection plate the parts to the
PTO clutch fell out into my hand. Not a good sign. Book states must split tractor to get into this. Thanks

I have seen this recently at the John Deere shop where I work, although it was on a JD 850.
I don't know how much different it will be for your Oliver. 3 ft just might be enough the problem you will have with a short space is the long PTO shaft it might come apart with that much space.
As for advice, just unhook all fuel lines, steering linkages, etc. and then hoist the back part and put a wheel jack under the front part and split

Also, replace all clutch disks, through out bearings and resurface the flywheel and other surfaces.
THese things have to be done eventualy anyways, so might as well do them while it is open. THey had to split the tractor twice where I work because they did not do these things.
