: Recently I have come across several Vlchek open end wrenches at yard sales. these are very well shaped and balanced. I have never seen a retail outlet for this brand , which is made in Chicago. Are they still in business? Any info on other products? thanks ..... Cyrus Vlchek was made in U.S.A. and I believe was bought by Pentelton Tool Co. who made Proto Tools. Some tell me that Vlchek did have a factory in Chicago, others say that they we out of Cleveland. Possibly they were in both places. After closing the wrench side of the business, the Vlchek brand continued with plastic tool storage although I do not know if the ownership was the same. I believe that Vlcheck plastics became part of Flambeau plastic storage. While the name might be Russian or Polish, the company was American. It is possible that "V" meant Vlcheck as a Craftsman supplier. Sears is said to code their wrench suppliers in this manner. But, "V" is a commonly used forging mark that helps the tool manufacturer identify approximately when the tool was made and which forging die was used.
