I cannot get the grease cert on a new PTO shaft U-joint to take grease. When I take the cert out of the U-joint and place the grease gun on, grease flows easily thru it. Any suggestions?

It is possible that the zerk fitting is bottoming out against the shaft. With a square or triangular file make a notch across the bottom of the fitting so the grease can escape.

Bud, before you go bezerk on the zerk, (sorry...couldn't resist) I'd like to offer my 2 cents. If the PTO shaft is brand spankin' new, it may not be thru drilled. In my 28 years in industry, I've learned that screw-ups happen. Jimmyin' up the new piece might make it hard to return. Take it back and exchange it if you can. Otherwise, what they said..... Good luck.

What they said! then add a little heat and wash it out with grease by pumping grease through the u joint.
(if it is out in the open and not on your car)
Just real warm not red hot.

I've see pictures of a tool for unplugging
stuck grease passages...

It Looks like a small hammer-driven
impact screwdriver, except it has
a grease fitting on the end instead
of a driver bit... and

You fill it with grease-dissolving solvent,
put it on the zerk fitting, and hit it with
a hammer. Supposed to give a major jolt
of pressure to unplug things.

I haven't tried one personally, but I've got
lotsa plugged fittings to deal with too.

An opportunity to ask if anyone out there has
used one of these and how well it worked..
(or didn't work...)

Just so happened to have one of those little do-ers and everytime I needed to, it did the job. One thing though, if the zerk fitting (Correct spelling for those that need to know)is angular, you have to remove and install straight one so that you can get a good lick on it with a clobbering iron. (That's a hammer if you need to know that too). I want to say that K-D Tools made it. Right handy tool when you need it. If you had hands like Roberto Duran, maybe you could design one to use a shotgun shell like that Field Marshall tractor and use it in confined spaces.
P.S. Lets not try it, I wouldn't like to look like a unicorn, would you? Fred from the Mung Factory

Subtle advertisment! This tool is available at NAPA. I've sold 3 or 4 of them in the last year or so but havn't heard much in the way of feedback on them. Thats usually good news. If the guy wasn't happy with it I'd durn sure heard about it! :-)

Can't remember the part number but its in the NAPA service tool line.

zirk, you got a blockage in the hole the Zirk goes in. Try a grease dissolver in a spray can like B=12 or maybe gumout or maybe get a thin copper wire and probe it to get the gunk out. All it is is gunk plugging it . bo
