My Interior lamps are staying on 1 to 2 hours after closing the door. I think the door sensor is hatched. I am trying to find out where this sensor is located or better yet a Ford discussion site.

We have been having the exact same problem with our 96 windstar have you. We are also having a problem with the battery not holding a charge if I do not drive the van everyday. We have had the battery and altenator tested and both are perfect so we are clueless if you have or find out any info on this please email me back we would appreciate it!

I have a 1998 Windstar Van (3.8 Litre) and now the air flow for the A/C or heating (in winter) blows only through the defrost vents regardless of where the switch is set. If I reach under the dash I can pull the vacuum lever so that it blows out through the appropriate vents but as soon as I start to drive it goes back to blowing up through the defrost vents again...any suggestions on how to fix!!!

Hey Tom:

That is an area I don't get into except for the AC once in great while. If you want something AC related try "http://www.hdair.com/" . If it is other mechanical type stuff you might try
"http://webhome.idirect.com/~truck51/index.html"
that site and the Links provided will get you connected to some chat rooms and a webring, where you may meet up with someone that has similar interests and can hook you up with some informative sites.

Hope that helps Tom R.

We are also having problems with our interior lights. We are looking for an answer on how to solve this problem.

I have the same problem. I heard there was a recall on the 1996s. But my dealer wont acknowledge this. The recall number is 96b89

I have a similar problem and I asked a Ford service agent about this and he indicated that they are beginning see that problem. What they recommend is get a can of WD-40 and spray the door sensors and open and close the doors about 100 times to work it in. :-)

I have not tried this. Ford is buying back my Windstar because it stalls all the time and they cannot fix the problem.

Our 1996 Ford Windstar has been a nightmare. Since we owned it (acquired it in mid 1998) it has constantly been in & out of the shop with the "Check Engine" light coming on & engine running rough (hesitating). Took it to two diff dealers (one replaced the intake manifold & claimed that it was cracked & water was leaking in - shorting the plugs out; the 2nd claimed the valves were sticking & ended up completely breaking down the engine to grind them out). Now the ABS light comes on whenever the engine gets warm. Tell me more about Ford buying back your vehicle. I'd sure like to get rid of mine.

Thanks
