My air compressor recently broke down, and I am unable to afford a new one at the moment. Would it be possible to rig a quick connect compressed air fitting to my oxygen tank, so I could run my impact wrench of the oxygen from the torch? I figure that it would work if I set the pressure to greater than 60 PSI. Any input would be appreciated.

but it would be cheaper to just buy a new whatever you're workin on-----than to use oxygen for to run an impact.

NEVER!!!!! !! OXygen will combine with oil and cause fatal noises.A viable alternative is bottled NITROGEN,it's cheap, stable and very portable. It's commonly used at racetracks for airtools and to inflate tires;it contains no moisture and the tire will not gain pressure as the tire gets hot.

Actually it didn't blow up at the time... but the guy doing it set the 02 pressure
up to 100 lbs to test an air cylinder...
and didn't bother to reset the regulator..

The next guy came along and lit up the torch
to do a cutting job. The 02 backfed the acetyelne hose... (pre backfire suppressor days)

There was a bang and the millwright was just able to throw the torch before the whole marianne blew up into a fireball the size of a volkswagen.

If he'd been in an enclosed area he probably would have been killed.

moral-- high pressure O2 is not a good thing
to play about with...

John, if you're not in the hospital and can read this you can use nitrogen but NEVER mix O and oil.

Its amazing how little an amount of oil is required to make an explosion Back in the dark ages whwn every body used the greasy hair stuff and I was in the Navy we had a guy loose the tips of his fingers while disconnecting an o2 line the only explanation the safety board came up with was that he had rubbed his fingers thru his hair

use a good breaker bar and socket until you can buy a new compresser.busted knuckles are better then being blownup.

John:

PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT!!!!!

When the oxygen combines with the oil in the air tool you will very proably have and explosion and fire.

Hi John,
Using O2 from the bottle is too dangerous. You would have a fire or explosion hazard.
Steve
