Need Help with Driver for Bushings

I am starting to reassemble my 1950 JD "B" and must replace several bushings, retainers, and bearing cups, etc. As you know many of these parts in a tractor are of a large diameter and bushing/seal driver sets are expensive - especially when dealing with sizes such as 1-1/2, 1-3/4 and 2-1/4 inch sizes.

Any suggestions about where I can purchase drivers for a reasonable price OR recommendations for alternative tools to do the job.

Thanks,

Ken Reese

Ken, For installing bearing races I have made suitable drivers out of the old races. Run them across a belt sander or grinding wheel to remove a couple thousands from the outside diameter and weld some type of handle to the race. It works for me.

Ken, at North American trucking we used the old bearing races as well. We would remove the old race, then
using a torch we would cut a slot out of one side of the race. Insert your new race and tap down into the housing. Insert the old race upside down over the new race and tap down until the new race is seated. All you
have to do to remove the old race is give it a little pull. The slot will let the old race flex and spring out.

Good luck,
Carlos
