Powermatic wood/metal bandsaw

I just purchased a Powermatic model 143 bandsaw. It is a 14 inch saw, with 8 speeds, allowing cutting of both wood and metal. This acived with moving the v belt for 4 speeds, and then ther is a high/low transmission. Does anyone know what wt gear oil this is designed for? I also have found an oilcup near the end of the shaft controlling the gear-but it is partially under the ring on the far end of the shaft and cannot be opened far enough to put in any oil. Any ideas about this?. The motor is not original, and someone has added a pipe to make adding gear oil easier, so the oil cup may not be original.
It was built in 1963, so there has been lots of time for modifications

We have a Powermatic 143 here at school. The instruction manual says to use SAE 40 oil in the gearbox. Capacity is 1.5 pints. This is a very tough machine.

I am a bit of a maverick, I do my own thing a lot. I have been known to mix Slick 50 or Duralube or STP in gear oil for boxes that get hard use. Have never been sorry. I keep one oil can with Slick 50 in it. Once quieted a noisy 1 1/2 ton diff. with a can STP, my son says just turn up the radio.
