Just wanted to hear what Safety Kleen or other services charge in other areas. Here on the left coast they want $172.00 bi-monthly. They will come around to service tank every two months, to service the washer. The washer sits on about a 35 gal can, that they put about 13-15 gallons of solvent in. They try to tie you to a Two-year contract with a cost increase after the first year. Anyone else getting a better deal?
Thanks.

Thank you all for responses. This tank is used is for a business, so tank has to be pretty heavy duty, and I'm looking for a smaller one for home shop use.
I just think for this much money ($86 each month) there must be a way to have clean solvent. One diesel engine rebuild and you end up with very black messy solvent to work with till the next scheduled SafetyKleen stop, often times more than a month away, always too long of a wait.SafetyKleen has recently tried to tie me to a two year contract while offering only some PRICE INCREASES. This has made me take another look at the whole deal. Do you think for less than 6 months rental I could have a very nice heavy duty solvent tank with spin-on filters too and have enough left over to service it when need be? Has anyone tried filtering solvent for cleaning with, would you use a fuel dispensing filter, or a large motor oil filter or large engine fuel filter or something else? Would probably require a pretty strong pump for the engine oil or engine fuel filter, but the fuel dispensing filter would probably work with gravity flow, I'm guessing. Or am I wrong? I get a good deal on wix filters. I'm of course concerned about proper disposal of mess, filters are easier to deal within the law than a bunch of dirty solvent. With the solvent water "system" (someone else recomended this type system too), does the soot from the diesel motor oil settle out too, or do you think it will require filtering with heavy use? Do you think mineral spirits will stay as separate from the water as the kero does?
Lots of questions huh,.what do you all think?
I appreciate any info from all, even if its bad I wanna hear it.

What city are you in? I lease parts washers. The filter thing seems like a good idea until you follow it though. Can you place solvent in the trash? NO. Can you place a filter in the trash that has solvent in it? NO. You can only place a oil filter in the trash after hot draining it for 24 hours. Using a filter on solvent WILL NOT romove anything except some of the dirt. It will not remove fuel or oil of anykind. If you use a filter tight enough to filter out most of the dirt you will be spending more than that 86.00 a month. If you really want to use a filter they ZIP. Lots of guys buy them and I end up serving there machine after the free solvent is used up.

1. Ask for a smaller washer changed more frequently. 2. Get 2 washer on longer term & use one for finalrinse . Remember even if solvent is black it is propably still cleaning. 3. Filters will only take out the "grit" not the colour.

Mineral spirits is a highly refined kerosene which is also better than fuel oil. Since it is for a business, there are some mandatory EPA considerations to consider. If this is your only waste you should be able to "recycle" the solvent and avoid having to obtain an EPA id number. If other things are added to the cleaning solvent (like halgonated hydrocarbons) you can end up with hazardous waste. If you use an irresponsible disposal firm and they screw up, you can be held responsible for cleaning up the whole site!

With Safety Kleen you have the financial backing of the whole firm to idemtify or insure the disposal of your fluids.

For the record I have no financial interest with S-K or any other T(reatment) S(tore) D(disposal) F(acility). I do have an interest in not messing up the environment for my children.

You should be able to get some advice from the S-K rep on how to properly manage your cleaning solvents. It could be they are the only game in the area.

A call to your regional regulatory agency may provide alternative/competitive methods for your waste management methods. They are called DEC, DEQ, or Ministry of the Environment.

I hope this has helped...

Since S/K is chapter 11 could you tell me how the are so well off?
Part of the money problem is paying fines and fighting court battles over improper disposel of your waste. The eps will not make anyone clean the site. They will make you pay your part. that is the reason for all the paper work.

I bought a medium sized cleaner from Tractor Supply. I think it is a 10-15 gal unit. Taiwanese, but totally functional. It is all steel, has a fusable link lid closer, and a decent pump.

The unit was about $130 and 5 gal of cleaner was something like $30.

For my moderate use, this is fine.

I like the idea of the kerosene floating on top of water. Great idea- then your solvent should stay pretty clean.

I made one out of a 30 Gal. drum and a pump from WW Grainger. I fill the drum half full of water and dump kerosene on top which floats on the water. All the junk sinks in the water and you only pump clean kerosene. Works great!
