There seem to be two basic options- a single or two stage regulators. My Sears catalog sells a light, medium and heavy duty sets in the single stage regulator type. My limited knowledge is that the two stage regulators provide better control. Does this mean I should opt for a less expensive two stage or best quality single stage Thanks for information. Alan,If it were me i'd run from a sears toarch! The Victor combo cutting and welding job is great
for most non pro users!! When i retired from G.M.
[journeyman millwright] the boss told me to order
any tool up to $300.00 i wanted as a gift,so i told him when i started there 13 years ago they
gave me a new toarch, and if it was ok that would
be great to have my old toarch!! CUTMASTER!!!! P.S. going first class is usually
cheaper in the long run!! Bud DeLong. Check out the sale at www.sykoraauctions.com on 10/9/99 Bud DeLong.

Thanks Bud- I admit you have to be quite selective with Sears tools. My father had a Sears 9" hand plane that looked great, but never worked right. I bought a Milwakee 4.5" grinder and in about a year the head went so I bought a 4.5" Bosch which is still going strong. My Milwakee Sawzall however is a great tool. I guess each tool has to have the right design. Alan K.

Alan,
It is assumed that a two stage regulator will provide a more constant torch pressure, especially where high volumes of gas are consumed. In a two stage acetylene regulator for example, the first stage reduces the pressure to about 50 psig. In the second stage, the pressure is adjustable and regulates the pressure and flow of gas to the torch. Two stage regulators reduce the variance in pressure to the torch as the pressure drops in a bottle as it nears empty. If you were using a manifold system, two stage regs would be an asset. For occassional use by the home hobbyist or for a small farm shop the single stage is fine.
