Is there a product to repair cracks in the sidewalls of a rear tractor tire? I have some deep cracks that I would like to fill.

There is a tire paint product from Miller Tire that advertises to be good for what you ask. I haven't tried it yet, but would like to. You can find Miller's website on the vendor list elsewhere on this site.

Al:

I worked on a late model John Deere tractor today that had a bad tire. They put a part of a thin tire inside the tractor tire a bolted it with a smooth head caridge type bolt. So far its held for over a year with daily use. you have to see it to believe it. Poor guys have poor ways.

You got to remember, many farmers fixed all kinds
of things with baling wire and binder twine, maybe not to the profesional way of fixing them but they worked. Yesterdays farmers were inventive and kept things going and kept their crops going rather than waiting for some parts from some dealers. Got to give credit where credit is due. Stan

Hey Busdriver:

I wish we could still get ahold of some baling wire here in Southern california. I have used it for many fixs in the past. As I move around these old tractors I see many fixs that require not having to pay a dealership to come out and repair.

This message board is the best thing since sliced bread. Many people have giving me great advice, and I also read others to learn from their projects. The only bad question is the one not asked.

I second those positive comments. In my area all the mentors are now dead, now that I'm getting up in years. It's depressing when you have no where to turn when YOU run into a problem. Love being able to give younger people the benifit of my experiance, especially since I have no sons, or daughters that have an interest, but it's sure nice to now have a place to turn.

Save your money; buy new tires when the ones you have fail. Keep the new ones out of the sun & properly inflated.
