The bottom of my burn barrel has rusted away and fallen off... I want to JB Weld a metal grate to the bottom of it... will JB Weld hold up and be able to withstand the high temperatures of a burn barrel? Does anyone have experience in such a matter? Keep yer powder dry, Gunny, USMC

At what temperature does J B Weld melt? We have a customer that we put J B Weld around a pipe plug and then over the top of the plug. They want to know what process we will use to remove it someday when they need into the port cavity?

Some Einsteins have repeatedly beat up my vicious mailbox. Itis wrought iron and they broke a large piece off. I J.B.Welded it back (after cleaning with acetone and alcohol), it glued nicely. Week later, Einstein was back. The J.B.Weld did not hold up to 3900 psi/lbs.as stated on back of pack as mailbox broke exactly where it did before. Why????
P.S. They used a wooden stick which broke.
Signed, Mac

I'm with them. We use an old axe to chop a few hole in the bottom. Takes out a lot of stress too! I like the idea of shooting the holes too. The rebar thru the bottom would stand up a loooong time. And with the price of JB weld you could afford to haul to the dump(I mean sanitary landfill, no waste containment site, no ...oh you know what I mean.Fire when ready!

Whenever I get a new barrel, we set it down in the field a ways, get the rifle out and fill the bottom full of holes. The barrel lasts a good long time.

It's your barrel,so have as much fun with it as you can stand, but why don't you poke or drill holes along the bottom and run some reinforcing rods through for a grate? It,s a burn barrel, not the space shuttle!

Hi, JB Weld is good for a lot of things. It is not suitable for the application you mentioned. It is a epoxie based material with a metal and/or fiberglass filler. It will melt and burn at elevated temperatures. It does hold up reasonably well in applicatons up to about 250 degrees F. Good luck, have fun, bentorbroke

Hey Gunny, I do agree in a way with buying a new barrel. There about $5.00 here in our area, but if you're like me you like to experiment. I love JB Weld. I have the two tubes of it in my toolbox at work, I'm about to buy some for home now when I leave the library. I used it one time to repair a gas tank on my pushmower. The fuel take came loose, rattling against the cooling fins on the engine creating a crack. JB Weld fixed it good as new. I do heating and air conditioning work. One day this past week the framework in a supply air register in the ceiling broke. JB Weld fixed it up good as new. Good luck my friend. -Zach

Zach, I have a leak in a tractor gas tank, and have been advised that gas will eat through JB.
You seem to have good luck in using it.
How long ago was the leak repaired??
