What size compressor do I need?

I am in the market for a large, fixed, shop air compressor. I want to run air tools, spray paint, and be able to sandblast.

Now, this is all a hobby- still I want to get a nice setup. So- how many CFM @ what psi do I really need for effective sandblasting?

There is a Campbell Hausfield 4 cylinder 80- gallon unit that does 17.5 SCFM@90 psi for $859 (local). Would something like this be enough, or would I run out of pressure every minute or so while blasting?

Steve's comments are right on when it comes to checking the air requirments on any tool. I have the Campbell Hausfield 7hp 2stage air compressor you mentioned above except the 60 gal version. I am very happy with it. I have a 100lb craftsmen sandblaster and the pressure never drops below 100psi.

Check out sandblasters before you buy your compressor. TIP Tools and Equipment sells "pressure blasters" in a number of sizes and CFM requirements. Check out their web site. I also suggest you look in your yellow pages for compressor dealers and repair shops. You may be able to locate a used or rebuilt commercial model with more CFM capability for less money.
