I have used a Stihl chainsaw most of my llife and have never had problems. I need an extra saw because my Stihl is getting old and was wondering if I should stick with Stihl, or try a Husquavarna. (sorry about the spelling). What are your comments on these name brands?

My brother gave me a Stihl 041 after he abused it for 5 years. I then abused it for more than 10 years, I gave it back, now he is abusing it again. Neither of us ever threw away old fuel mix, we just used it till it was gone. This saw always starts and runs excellent, and never required repair beyond chain service, sparkplug and filter cleaning. I recently bought a 066M Stihl for milling oak and other wood, the dealer charged me $120 more than a comparable Husky. I gladly paid the difference. I have Husky too, also excellent saws.
I have recently learned to always use fresh fuel, don't over rev, and let cool (no load) for a minute after full load before shutting off. In my experience both Stihl and Husqvarna brands have been excellent.

I have the Stihl 029 Farm Boss for 5 years. Other than being a tad heavy, it has been a fantastic machine. This is my second one since someone else decided they liked my old Stihl better than I did. I.E. got broken in and had $1,500 of tools stolen.

My husky has done me a good job,I don't know if it's a better saw than the stihl, but I think it's more saw for your buck.I do have a old homlite {XL 700} that stayed with a farm boss all weekend.
My father bought that saw 30 years ago and it's never had the case split.

I bought my Stihl at a dealer that sells both Stihl and Husky. He said that in the homeowner models, the Stihl is a little better built from a mechanical standpoint (type and number of piston rings, and the bearings are better, according to him). In the pro models, he sells more Huskies.

If I could truthfully say that I had used a particular brand of tool most of my life and never had a problem, I would not consider another brand. That said, the loggers around this area use both Stihl and Husky, which I think speaks very well for both brands. My experience has been with Stihl and two different neighbor's Homelites. No contest there.

I've only ever bought Stihl, and I've always been happy. I get parts right around the corner at the New Holland dealer, so there is never a problem. A friend of mine is a logger and he swears by Husquavarna(?), says they're more of a professional tool. They do have a nicer feel, but there aren't any dealers close by, so I stuck with the tried and true. This last saw of mine is a 009L, that I bought in 1989. It's cut about 20 acres of old vineyards, and who knows how much firewood. Just replaced the bar last month, now I think that's pretty good.
