Help! I recently bought a used Murray mower with the 14hp b&s i/c mod 287707 engine. On occasion, and usually under load, this HUGE cloud of smoke pours from the exaust and the engine chokes down until the oil is burned. There is a great amount of oil deposited in the air intake and I have to sop it out.

Where is the oil comeing from?? What is the cure??

Any suggistions appreciated, tccox@webtv.net

Try cleaning the crankcase filter.
It's on the carb. side of motor, right behind carb. it should have a hose coming from it, going to the carb. air filter housing.
There's a check-valve behind the filter, make shure it's working properly. you will have to remove the carb., so don't destroy gasket.
What it sounds like to me is the check-valve is not working properly, and it blows oil from crankcase through the hose and through carb., and getting into the cylinder. To check this, just disconect the hose from the air breather, and run mower. Hope this helps. Ned
