I have a nibco ball valve that I use for a flush mechanism on my urinal in the shop. It has started leaking at the base of the handle (from the ball itself) Is there any adjustment that I can make it stop the leaking or am I just going to buy a new valve?
Tom

That reminds me. I had a friend back in the day, a big strong guy, who used to go in the men's restroom at bars and loosen and lower the union that was right below the sloan valve with his bare hand. He always got a big laugh when someone would pull the handle and it sprayed all over them. Must of have been a common problem as sloan later moved the union down on top of the urinal so it always stayed in position even if loosened.

Glad to hear that it was a simple fix.
Many people overlook ball valve packing nuts thinking that only gate valves have them.

Well, thanks to your responses, the valve is repaired. It turns out that it did have a packing nut and when tightened down, all leakage stopped. Thanks for the quick answers.

If it is a true Ball valve and not a flush valve.

You will need to replace it if its plastic. .
A brass one normally has a packing nut that can be tightened to stop them from leaking.
Remove the handle. Open the valve until it starts to leak. Hold the valve in place and carefully tighten the nut until it stops. Replace the handle. Do not over tighten the nut. To tight and the valve will be hard to operate.

Packing nut.

unless there is a top stem collar, no.. you need to replace the ball valve. If there is.. you need to replace the nylon looking oring and tighten it down again.
