I've seen quite a few postings with people recommending the use of oven cleaner to strip an
engine of paint. I'd like to know which type works best and also, how do you save the engine
tags? Won't the cleaner dissolve any tape or such
used to protect them? Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Easy-Off Heavy Duty is the best. Spray it on and leave it on there for about 24hrs and then pressure wash it off. It may take two applications to remove the paint. I've never tried stripping just an engine, I usually use it when I strip a tractor to restore, it may not remove all of the paint from an engine because the engine gets hot enough while it is running and it bakes the paint on there. I would try it and see.

I believe that Easy-Off heavy duty is the best to use. I have not tried it yet, but on another list Easy-Off was the favorite

dear easy off:

i have used easy off oven cleaner for many, many years and never had a problem, it did its job well, but recently while cleaning my oven, i felt my skin burning and looked at my arm and found 7 marks burning and foaming my skin...it all reddened and looked like big cigarette marks...2 weeks later still tender to clothes and scabbing; beware of this and i think i'll look for another oven cleaner to try...sorry this happened but i'm a nurse and this shouldn't have happened, maybe a bad can , who knows sincerely,
