Is there a way to fix a manifold on the older Farmalls when the threads are in bad shape or is it easier to buy a new manifold?

TIA
Joe

For the cost of a new manifold, I wouldn't consider 'trying' a fix. How much patience do you have taking on and off that broken manifold? I have a 1942 Farmall M that I just replaced the manifold for the first time.....not bad for a 57 year old....I doubt I'll be around to replace it again!

INSTEAD OF BUYING A TAP I JUST PUT THE PIPE IN AND WELDED IT TO THE MANIFOLD. WHAT HAPPENS THE PIPE IS RAN LOOSE THE THREAD ARE BEATEN OUT IF IT IS TOO BAD AND YOU RETAP IT CHANCE ARE THERE WON'T BE ENOUGH THREADS TO HOLD.

If it is not a show piece then welding is a good way to go. I paid to have somebody with old cast iron welding knowledge do welding and it worked great on 2 M's. My Dad took his IH H manifold to a nieghbor for brazing. He took it back three times, now is going to have it welded.

I bought a Farmall 200 a few years ago, the muffler was completely shot, but when I replaced it there was still far too much noise. Upon closer examination I found a small hole in the exhaust part of the manifold, right near (and aimed at) the gas tank. Good design by IH had placed a heat shield between the manifold and the tank, but the shield was blackened by the blowtorch that was directed at it. I'd say if the threads are shot the rest of the manifold probably isn't far behind.

2 inch pipe thread

If you have new male thread to go back in, the manifold can be pretty bad and be fixed.

Find a two inch pipe tap and give it a try.
