Does anybody have any suggestions on where to purchase a motor for my woodsplitter . I have the latest northern hydraulics catalog. Would there be any other places that may have better prices or are they the best around.

I needed a 3.5 horse B&S for my rototiller last year, Northern's price looked good but the shipping charges made it about the same as the Quality farm & fleet, so I bought local, which I'd rather do anyway.

In my (admittedly limited) experience, you'll have a hard time beating Northern Tool. You MIGHT check with your local HQ or similar Mega-home center type place.

Shipping is always an added cost when purchasing from Northern Hydraulics and other mail order sources. You also have to wait a bit whch may or may not be an issue. State sales tax is an an additional expense if you buy locally. The motors sold by Northern Hydraulics are designed to inteface with their hydraulic pumps. So, before I would buy from Northern Hydraulics I would check sources like Tractor Supply Company (TSC) and Rural King (or whatever you have in your area). They usually stock small motors. If they have or can get the model you need figure their price with tax and compare to Northern Hydraulics with shipping.
