Recently purchased sandblasting equipment from Sears. A compressor with 8.6 CFM @ 40 PSI and 6.4 CFM @ 90 PSI. The blasting hopper is syphon feed and requires 4.5 CFM @ 40 PSI minimum. I am using 20-30 grit sand. The problem I am having, is that I cannot get a steady stream of media coming out of the nozzle. If I keep pressing the trigger on and off I will get an intermittent flow.. What could be the problem. Thanks in advance

While not familiar with your setup, I do know a few things about sandblasting. When I had feed problems like that using a big commercial rig, it was usually due to moisture creeping in somewhere. The sand and the air pushing it has to be dry, dry, dry :) If your compressor has some sort of petcock for draining moisture (it should) be sure to purge it. You can probbably figure out the rest. Good luck :)

Hi Claus, where the siphon hose connects to your
sand supply is there a small hole in the tube
where the hose is pushed on? I use the siphon system and where the 3/8 sand
hose connects to the sand pot there is a hole
drilled in the connector so air can be siphoned in
as well as sand. If the sand is pulsating just
experiment with the sand hose by partialy covering
the air hole to regulate the amount of air drawn
in. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip, will try it today. I was afraid that the answer was going to be "Well you need a 2 stage compressor with a zillion cfm at 2 billion psi."
Thanks again..

Actually that is the answer. Bigger , more powerful toys! My siphon feed blaster lasted me a coupla years till I got the chance to rent a commercial rig. Now I have a 185CFM Joy compressor and a pressure blaster. I am thinking this will do for the time being....
