Put a spinner knob on my steering wheel of my JD 870 with hydrostatic power steering and lo and behold, noticed that the spinner knob never was in the same position from time to time. Any one know if hydrostatic steering has a slippage of sorts as a normal thing?

Yes, they do. When our tractors are off, you can turn the wheel and not have the front end move. Also when the wheels have maxed out, if you keep turning slowly, the wheel will continue to turn. I'd guessw that even staying in the normal range, it will slip a little as oil gets past the pump.

thanks for the follow up Aaron, thought I was losing it when I went up the road with the spinner knob in my left hand and back down the road with the knob in my right hand. Told my wife and she gave me this real strange look.

Now, I'm glad I could help, but the key to all this is to NOT tell your wife that it's normal. Maybe you can get a little extra TLC after some seat time. Wink:)
