I think I want to buy a wire welder but wonder just how often I would use one never having had one before. They look easy to use. What is more useful a wire welder or an oxacetelene torch?

Let me preface my remarks by noting that I have an argon wire welder as well as an oxyacetylene outfit (plus a stick welder).

Having said that, I can offer this advice based on my own experience. With a wire welder, you can weld stuff (typically stuff that's not too heavy) wherever electricity is available. With an oxyacetylene outfit, you can weld, braze, solder, cut, heat up rusted bolts, heat up metal for bending, burn off paint, etc., etc., and a lack of electricity is no obstacle. Each unit has its place in the shop, but, in my opinion, if you can have only one, the oxyacetylene unit will prove to be far more versatile.

I agree with above post--most 110volt mig's will only weld thin sheet metal
