Stodard solvent is cheap, has high flash point and is easy on skin. I pay .75 gal if I fill my own can. Most wholesale oil people stock it. Best thing about it is if you let it set, most of the crud settles to the bottom.

I have used a number of solvents over the years. Some will probably make me grow horns out of my head one day. Over all I've had the best results with Simple Green. 2 parts water to 1 of the simple green. Its non-flam, environmentally friendly and works pretty good. Just don't leave painted parts in it too long. It will peel it eventually.
Another good one I have used is Hurry Clean.

Paint thinner works very well and is a whole lot cheaper than the fancy stuff.
