NAPA is the first & usually the only place in town I go. If they don't have what I need I don't mind the wait till next morning. 2 years ago I needed a bearing for my combine, NAPA had it for 6 bucks, the store across the street wanted over 9 bucks for the SAME bearing. As far as NAPA batteries go, thats all I put in my farm equipment, in 11 years I've had only 1 go bad before it's time. Roger

I keep walking in the other suppler in our town, & for some reason their counter is designed that 5 other people get waited on before me, even tho I walked in first.

For some reason I find myself walking into the local NAPA first a _lot_ more. The guy says 'Hi Paul' before I get to their counter....

(Any store owners might want to take notes...)

Like any business it depends on who is running it. In my area we had two NAPA stores within 15 miles of each other competing for my business. One store had $500,000 worth of inventory and seemed to have everything I wanted on the shelf. The other offered to "talk price" but only had about $250,000 in stock and everything was "warehouse has it, we'll have it first thing in the morning". I like low prices but service is worth something.

i work at a WAREHOUSE and i have seen that alot of auto parts stores here in norther nj are using the warehouse as their main stocker of parts. it really comes down to economics. if a customer is willing to wait for a part from the warehouse then the store's profit margin can go up by not having to "sit on money" by having the part sit on a shelffor a time until it sells i hope i qam understood. thanks

I understand. NAPA has always been a good experience for me. Sometimes I think people lose perspective. NAPA has either always had my part or could have it next day, the price is always fair and their parts knowledge above average. Most of the so called super parts stores are just like Wal-Mart, nobody there has the knowledge to sell you a part, they don't give a hoot about you or your part, just your dollar, and then "next, please", if it aint right or don't work, then go tell the chaplain, cause he might care. NAPA stores I use have parts books to backup their computers, and know how to use both. Come on guys, we have starved out Mom & Pop grocery stores, cafe's, service stations, and everything else to save 15 cent on a $1000 item, let's don't make that mistake again. To my way of thinking, when we starve out the independent parts stores, we'll destroy every enjoyment we have from tinkering on these antique and obsolete tractors to begin with. It don't matter if it's NAPA or Western Auto, or which independently owned parts store it is, please try to buy it from your neighbor, give him that extra day to get your parts, it'll be the right one with a warranty. He'll be the one you see at the high school ball game,or at the local hospital visiting his folks, or his folks visiting him, not Sam Wal-mart or Mr. Autozone. Let' invest in our own communities and not Wall Street or Hong Kong, or any other big money investors. Come on guys it's America and us, Lady Liberty has always stood tall let's help her keep the torch lit in our own communities.

I have 4 major autoparts places to shop at around here, either national or big regional distributors. Yes, NAPA prices can be beat on a lot of items. However, at least for the two NAPA stores in my neck of the woods, as funny as it it, I have to take exception to the No Auto Parts Available remark. I find they will consistenly have the part I need when others don't. The difference in price most times is not worth the time and gas to shop around. Also, (and again, this is just my experience in local stores) the counter people tend to be more knowledgable and helpful. It's a 25 mile drive to the nearest one, and they will frequently toss a part on the truck for me, and drop it off at a local service station to save me a drive. I guess what I'm saying is that sometimes, service is worth a few extra pennies for the parts.

All parts are not created equal and more expensive isn't always better. NAPA has some good stuff, but they can often be beat on generic items such as bearings, etc by OEM sources. After all NAPA means "No Ag (or Auto) Parts Available"
