I just picked up a 3.5Gal. bench top parts washer from Harbor Freight. I am dissappointed to learn that according to the manual, I can't use anything but soap and water in it. Is this a liability thing with them or would I be taking a risk by useing mineril sprits or kerosene in it.

Would think naptha would be a better solovant than those mentioned, little smell, low votility, and easier on the skin. What y'all think?...

It's part liability and part save the enviroment wacko madness. The company I work for was required to use only soapy water in their washers. Hey! It makes a great place to wash your hands!

Thanks for your reply.
I have yet to see a citris based or an"Enviromentally safe" solvent that performs as well as advertised.
My main concerns are how different solvents effect the pump life and the baked enamel paint inside.
The solvents that I am leaning toward are kerosene, diesel fuel, or mineral spirits. Can you tell me if I should add something for pump lubrication? Maybe ATF?

Citroil is a great solvent even eats through asphalt. Citroil is a citrus based solvent that can be bought through Schaeffer Oil company

I don't know what the internal parts of the pumps are made of but you do run the risk of melting them if they aren't designed for solvent use. I'd recommend contacting the manufacturer or returning it and finding one for solvent use.

THe pump and motor ass'y on these devices are submerged in the fluid. If you want to add atf to your Mineral Spirits or Kero it won't hurt, and it will be much kinder to your hands!!!!! Modern Diesel fuel burns your skin , I don't reccomend it. Good luck , Dale
