I keep my tools in a Carftsman drawer tool box in an unheated building. With the temperature and humidity changes, I get light rust on tools. Any suggestions on how to prevent this problem. Thanks.

Arnold, we are talking about quality tools. Not those "made in China" imitations that you call tools. Oil is for lubrication not rust proofing.

It would take some time to spary them all, but I would use a product called Boeshield T9. It is sold as an aresol spray and was developed by Boeing for longterm protection for aircraft components. It leaves a thin waxy film if left on to air dry, and an even thinner protective film if wiped off. I started using it after reading several reviews of it in gun and boating magazines- and it works.

The other thing to think about would be putting a low wattage light bulb in the bottom , so it would slightly heat the drawers and the tools. This is the principal used with the "golden rod" devices sold for safes. If there is no place to put a light bulb for heat you might try looking for one of the thin stick on heat pads to use with reptiles. They stick to the bottom of the aquarium, and provide a diffuse source of heat. You could stick one to the bottom of the chest after adding some sort of feet to hold the weight and provide some space.

I have the same problem with new tools in my tool sales truck. Can you give us some outlets that may supply this Boeshield T9. It sounds like a great idea. I end up discounting to many demo tools because I can't leep them in condition.

Grizzly Imports has it in their metalworking catalog. 4 oz part # G2870 is $5.95. 12 oz part #G2871 is $11.95. Its not cheap- but then neither are tools.

Their phone number is 1-800-523-4777, and open 24 h per day. In looking the above up in their catalog I found they have a web site at www.grizzlyindustrial.com. Have not visited it yet- but that is about to change!
