What size pressure washer would I need to clean mildew from my concrete pool deck? Sears has on a 2350psi/2.2 gpm unit on sale for $400. Would that do the job?

:::Have you tried Clorox, mildew just hates the stuff. Spray it on with an insecticide sprayer and hose it off. Any size pressure washer would do the job better than a garden hose, but the Clorox is the key to cleaning mildew. Bonehead

I'd be amazed if a 2,350-psi unit didn't take off all the mildew you could ever find. I have a 2,200-psi/2.2 gpm unit that will take off paint if I'm not careful. It cleans really cruddy concrete to look just like new; it will clean engines and transmissions right down to the metal, and I'm sure that baked-on grease is worse to remove than mildew. Although you can never overbuy when it comes to horses, you might even find that a smaller unit would do what you need to do, possibly even one of the 1,300 or 1,500 electric units. But if you don't mind parting with the bucks, I think gas is the way to go. Something to keep in mind is that it's another small engine to maintain; electric units require much less maintenance. As we speak, my local Wal-Mart has a 1,300-psi electirc Cambell Hausfeld unit on sale for $119.96. My father-in-law has one for dekc cleaning, etc., and loves it. Wal-Mart is good about returns. If you have a local Wal-Mart, you might think about trying the Campbell-Hausfeld unit; if it doesn't work, take it back. Wal-Mart (at least in my town) also has gas-powered Campbell-Hausfeld units. You might do some comparison shopping. Although I have a ton of Sears/Craftsman stuff myself, I've found Sears' prices aren't quite as competitive as they once were on many items. Good luck with your decision.

I went to Wal-mart this weekend to check out the $119 electric unit. I was not impressed. It looks like a toy.
However, I ended up buying the smallest gas unit for $229. It has a 3.5 hp Briggs & Stratton engine, and is good for 1500 psi (at 2 gpm, I think). Haven't tried it on the tractor yet, but it does an amazing job on the driveway!
