I've got about 20 acres and i'm looking to improve the hay. I'm in the process of chopping down, running over, and digging out those hawthorn briar bushes which seem to spread all over. I just don't know what seeds to buy to improve the pasture and when to plant them? Do i have to do anything more then just spread the seed?

I noticed last fall that the hawthorn(thonapple) on my land (michigan)have gotton a natural diesese that is killing most of them.It looks like a fungus on the leaves. do you think people would be willing to buy branches to spread this? I think all a person would need to do is shake /place the branch over the tree. As for the seed ,first test the soil. then decide how much you want to pay and how long you want the hay field to last. Red clover is cheap and easy to get started but soon dies out. alfafa cost more in every way but last longer.
