I am looking for a portable welder to keep in my camper for emergency repairs. On three trips, I have had a pin break on my hitch: The latch that locks the torsion bars in place pivot on this pin. Would a 120 volt, 40 - 80 amp portable welder enable me to repair such a problem? If not, would an 80 amp wire feed be sufficient?

I am assuming you want to power this welder off of the generator in your camper. If that is the case you need a 20 amp plus service for a stick welder at 110 volt. For an 80 amp wire welder a 15 amp circuit will carry it. However 1/8 to 3/16" max for thickness welded. The ideal is the new power inverter welder. These units will run on a 15 amp circuit, handle 1/4" thickness and weld on material of any condition. The unit only weighs 6 pounds and is quite impressive. I have been building a new 48 foot sprayer boom using one of these instead of our 300 amp welder. Welds are smoother and cleaner
