Is there anything I can add to the hydralic system of my INTL. 424? When it gets cold it wont operate the loader.Thank you Norm.

Drain, clean, change any filters. then replace with synthetic oil. I use it in my JD MC and now, not only will the tractor start, but hydraulics are instant. this tractor is stored outside in Maine. often needs to run and work at 20-30 below o. Make sure you use the correct synthetic for the application.

Drain the fluid, change the filter if it has one, clean the suction screen if it has one, refill with CaseIH Hytran+, which is lighter than most generic universal/trans/hyd oils. It is normal for any hyd oil to need to warm up some to function properly in extreme cold.

Sounds like you have a restriction,or pump starving for oil.
Check to see why oil can't make it to pump properly. If it's
just a matter of extremely cold temp. [below 20 deg.] you
may think about using straight 10w, the place I work uses
it in Cat. and other equip. Some Int. use hyd. through the whole
machine so i'm not real sure. Your filter could be plugged, old
oil. Maybe you could install a cheap dipstick heater or similar
once the tractor is running a while it should stay warm with use.
I was adding 15-40 motor oil in 0 temp,2qts. took over 10 min
through one of those pour spout cans.

I gotta chuckle at 20 degrees being 'extremely cold.' :) Try grinding whole ear corn at 14 below F. Takes a while for the belts & oil to move, but wow does the corn shatter! :)

I woulld be careful with s dipstick heater, they can burn the oil & do more harm than good.

I have an 806 that does a lot of work in the winter (bone chilling northern plains winters) And I always change hy tran every fall and filter. It takes 10 min. to warm up and function on colder days. My loader on it is pto with 10 wt oil and it takes a while for it work right also.

Pretty much any of the straight weight oils (those without the multigrade indicators) will thicken up when cold. When this happens, the pump is not able to pull the oil through the filter(s) on the suction side of the circuit and your hydraulics won't work properly. Multi grade oils avoid this problem with viscosity modifiers (rocket science) to make the oil thinner when cold. As the other folks have indicated, fresh oil and clean filters will help get you going sooner (and keep you going longer). Patience helps some too.
