If you want really good tools with a tight budget, I'd suggest looking at Urrea tools. They used to be part of Proto and are made in Mexico. The tools are the same as Proto and even use the same part numbers. Some things I've found are even cheaper than Craftsman. Call 800-366-6911 to find your nearest distributor. Good luck!

I'm thinking about buying a set of wrenches (wenches?) from Harbor Freight, they seem to have more than a few good deals. My Pa in Law works in the oil patch and buys a few tools and things from that outfit. Later, Me

I have bought more than a few things from Harbor Freight. The axiom You get what you pay for counts here. Some of their low priced hand tools are pretty crude. Some of the other stuff isn't too bad, but you wouldn't want to run production with their tools.

They have a 3/4" drive socket set for about $45. Works great for the price. If I made a living tearing apart locomotives, I would want something else, but for the old Ford and the few times I use it it is well worth the money.

Same for an Impact - bought a 1/2" impact for $69 with 450 ft lb of torque. Works great. But, when it dies it's the trash barrel.

You have to weigh the alternatives. Right now I have a cutoff chop saw on order for $99. I don't cut much bar or pipe stock, but for $99 it will sure beat a hacksaw. I imagine if I did a lot of cutting, I would be better off buying a name brand at 3 times the price.

Hope that helps.

Jerry, does Harbor Freight have a web site or phone # ? I'd spring for one of those $99 chop saws ! Most of my tools are snap on or mac, I use them every day at the salvage yard where I work. It's nice to have them stop in once a week to warrenty tools and collect there "payment "
