I am aware that the firing order on an "H" is 1-4-3-2. Which is the number one cylinder...the one closest to the steering wheel or the one closest to the radiator?

Number 1 is closest to the radiator. Same in cars also.

Randy -

I encountered a similar problem several years ago with an Oliver 1600 industrial. Problem turned out to be water/rust in the bottom of the carb bowl. When climbing uphill it'd slosh to the rear of the carb and into the main jet, stalling the motor.

Solution was to drain the carb (it has a drain plug on the bottom of the bowl) and let a little fresh gas run thru it before replacing the plug. Also treated the gas in the tank with a couple bottles of drygas to mop up the water in the tank.

Good luck!

Bob
