Can any one tell me a good reasonable source for torque multipliers that are used with half inch,Three-quarter inch and inch drive rachet wrenches? I would be interested in new or used.

Thanx

A torque multiplier is good for tight spaces where a long torque wrench can't be used. I purchased a Snap On 3/4 drive dial torque wrench for $400 in 1990 (Not sure on the price now) I haven't used it every week but when I need it I have a quality tool that I can depend on. On the cheap stuff I would say, "You get what you pay for" If you buy a used torque wrench I would get it calibrated. Snap On & Proto are excellent tools.

I've found torque amplifiers to be outragiously priced...I needed a torque wrench for my 8n rear axle nut to get to 450 pounds..I found one thats about 4 feet long and is real heavy duty for $170..it goes up to 600 lbs and its 3/4...got it from harbor freight...free shipping and no tax

Dave, Sounds like you were satisfied with the torque wrench, I wondered how good of quality it was.

The way my luck runs, about the time I buy a torque multiplier for big bucks , harbor freight will start carrying them. That's what happened when I was in the market for a set of Bi-metal hole saws.

Welder, I was looking for a source with a more reasonable cost. I won't be using one to make a living.

Years ago I saw an Ad in Rock & Dirt magazine that had them reasonable.

Do you know of any other sources?

Shawn

Jack, Not a bad idea but easier said than done. Went to one rental place and they looked at me like I wanted to rent the Holy Grail.

Yeah, finding a rental yard that is well equiped can be a pain in some areas.

Buying the 3/4" drive torque wrench may be your best option if you're not going to use it often enough to justify the cost of a multiplier.

I lucked out at a swap meet long ago and found a nearly new 10:1 multiplier for $50. I think it has a rated maximum torque of 2500#, but would have to find the book. Keep looking for the bargains when you have time, they do occur.
