I guess this fits under the general heading of tools: What kind of material should be used to make gaskets between a carburetor and the intake
manifold of a small gas engine (for example a B&S)? I have some 1/16" thick asbestos-free Amgauge high density gasket material, will that work? Or do I need to find something else?

I've been known to use the front cover of a catalog for that application. The idea is to provide a semi soft filler between the faces which is not affected by the heat and/or material it's holding in or out.
The outside cover of a spiral notebook has also been pressed into service with very good results.

Hope this helps...

I have used backs of writing tablets in an emergency, but now I keep a stock of gasket material that I bought at NAPA. It's not that expensive and I don't have to worry about deteriating gaskets anymore.
