Are these synthetic oils worth the extra cost for moter protection. They say they really cut down on the metal to metal contact.

Bob When one lives in Canada or Alaska one learns the value of syn oils if one wants their motor to start and get to work on time.Syn oils out perform petro oils by a long shot under hot and cold extremes. Good Luck Dieseldog!

Cool, never though about letting the Syn. oil go past 3000 miles. Around here a 6-pack cost around 30 for full syn.Might try it.

Synthetics have better lubicating qualities and
are able to withstand degrading conditions better.

Whether they are "worth" it is anyone's guess.

Keeping your oil clean is more important.

I have heard that synthetic oils should NOT be
used during the break-in period for engines.

Bob: Synthetic oils are much better than standard oils. I recommend them in automatic transmissions and differentials as well as engines. However, I DO NOT recommend any extended oil drain interval with synthetic oil. They will become contaminated from engine use just as standard oils will. If you faithfully change engine oil and filter every 3000 miles and transmission oil every 15,000 miles and if you are using synthetic oil, you should expect quite an extended life from the engine and transmission. Also, some of the natural oils have been improved and are very good. I have run Shell ROTELLA T in my '87 Ford Bronco with the 302 engine and in my '87 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with the 305 high output engine and had good service. I try to change oil and filter every 3000 miles in both vehicles.-Sherrill Watkins,Richmond, Virginia.

I am saying this but I am an not an expert. They are better than petrol oils but on an older engine I would stay with the petrol oils. I use the syn. oil in my car a 94 model with 120K with no problems so far.

Why not use synthetic in older engines? Jaguar enthusiasts recommend it to stop oil leaks in these troublesome cars.I use it in my 86 XJ6 and get good results. I also use it in the JD MC, JD 850 and JD Lawn mower, compressor sump, and especially my generator. Generators often sit unused for lengthy periods, Synthetics stay on the cylinder walls so that start-up has good lubrication. Synthetics also do not thicken up as much as petroleum oils. This allows engines to start much easier in the cold.

Geo, sounds right to me. I'll use it in any new motor. Never wanted to use it on one with many miles. Alot of people say, it runs cooler, smoother, even faster..... I stay away from the blends...They don't have to put in for it to be blended. (rip off)

I HAVE USED AMZOIL IN DIESEL ENGINS AS WELL AS GASOLINE ENGINS SUCH AS A GEO METRO TWICE WITH 200,000 MILES OUT OF A 3 CLY. IN THE DESEL I ONLY CHANGE THE FILTER AND ADD OIL AS NEEDED I HAVE GONE OVER 400,000 ,ILES ON THE OIL WITH NO PROBLEMS. I ALSO USE IT IN ALL MY SMALL ENGINS. THE MILITARY HAS USED IT FOR YEARS BEFORE IT BECAME AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. BEWARE ALL SYN, OILS ARE NOT THE SAME AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE EXTREAM OIL INTERVALS WITH ANY OTHER OIL THEN AMZOIL. I DO NOT SELL IT BUT I AM A DEDICATED USER.
