I am rebuilding some small cylinders off my Brantly backhoe. The end cap of the cylinder was held on with a steel retaining ring, which I removed thru a small slot on the outside of the cylinder. ( I thought at first, the caps just screwed off, since there were slots for a spanner wrench ) The steel ring got bent up pretty bad pulling it out the slot. I am guessing you can buy replacement rings, and you install them thru the slot while turning the cap, but I am not sure. Can anbody confirm , and what the heck you call those rings?? Thanks for your help, Mike

your on the right track, the wire will come with the rebuild kit, it will have a hook on one end, hook it into the hole in end cap and turn it till the wire make a full circle.

I just rebuilt two cylinders myself. I just used 1/8 key stock and just bent a small hook at the end. Works fine
