you read right! i have a 80 model toyota pickup 4x4 i use as a service truck at my repair shop,i had tryed portable air compressors but found when you got to the job you sent more time starting them and keeping them running than the real job took. so i mounted a a.c. compressor on the truck motor, got myself a 30lb l.p. tank mounted it in truck bed and "wala" a compressor on wheels!!! it works great i can run a impact, air blower, die grinder i think you could even paint with it(well maybe)
if anyone would like the plans to make them one e-mail me and i'll be glad to help. p.s. this will work on any type vehicle not just a toyota.

I used an A/C compressor for years on a home made air compressor. I operated it at 125 psi. I never needed to add any oil. I used a 3/4 hp. motor to run it.

Interesting idea! How well does the compressor hold up without the oil that normally circulates with the freon?

I used an A/C compressor (a York I think) for years on a home made shop air compressor. I run it at 125 psi. It worked great, and I never checked or added any oil to it. I operated it with a 3/4 hp electric motor.
