I have a chance to buy a 2-cylinder cast iron Speedaire brand compressor. Are these units any good? What other brands would be comprable in quality - Campbell-Hausfield? Quincy? SOmething in between?

Thanks

You can find all the manuals for SpeedAir compressors at the Campbell Hausfeld website. There is also a parts list manual as well.

Go to: http://www.campbellhausfeld.net
Click on Manuals under Service Center on the left hand side of the page.

AI picked up a second hand air compressor. This is a Speedaire 3Z322 model. It only pumps up to 55 pounds. It looks like the pressure switch has been fooled with. Does anyone know the proper setting?

Wilbur:
I have the exact same compressor. (which works like a champ, btw) First, look for a small brass knob under the preasure swith assembly by the guage and outlet. Turn this knob to adjust preasure, normally. If further adjustment is needed, look under the preasure swith housing cover. (Pull it straight up, to remove.) There should be a label that tells how to adjust the cut-in and cut-out preasure, and the cut-out only.
If no label, then try to follow:
The larger brass screw on the "outboard side" adjust bot cut-in and cut-out simultaniously. Turn clockwise to increase. The smaller "inboard" screw adjusts the cut-out independantly. Turn clockwise to increase. Be careful. I think the max presure for these was 110 PSI.

I have a little one cylinder Speedair Compressor, driven by a 3400 rpm electric motor. Is there anyone who knows where I can purchase parts for this critter, I am looking for rings, seals and gaskets. There is no data on the compressor itself. If somone knows where I can get parts I will take it apart to get measurements. The drive shaft is 5/8 diameter. I would say this is a very light duty unit especialy considering it is driven by a 3400 rpm single voltage (110V) motor. And is mountd on a 8 Gal tank.

I got one about 10 years ago works great. I think they are made by the makers Campbell Hausfield but not sure about it. It is hard to tell the maker behind the labels these days. There isn't much to a compressor, but generally I would stick with the oil ones.

Dad's got one going on 30 years of service with nothing more than oil and filter changes. Overall good units I would compare with most any other brand of like size and type as far as recips go.
