Has anyone tried or used the Pelilite flashlights made by Pelican? Are they any good, or is there something else comparable or better? The bulbs are rated at 30 hours - seems a little steep at 10 bucks a pop for a replacement.

We get issued 2xAA Maglites at work for general use. Good adjustable light but I've never seen anything that wants to jump out of shirt pockets like it. The falls have dinged cases & shook bulbs loose, belt pouch or nothing wiht them. We keep a 5 or 6 D cell Maglite in each vehicle for both light & instead of a baseball bat/baton should the need arise We use the Pelican Pocket Sabre with our Bunker Gear in the Emergency response Team. Outstanding light with a sharp focused beam to see in smoke rather than a flood beam that just makes glare. Due to the high current draw, premium alkaline batteries in a fresh matched set must be used. Even with the hydrogen absorbsion pellet there have been reports of hydrogen explosions when cells are reversed or mismatched cells are used. For hunting I carry a Mitylite 2xAA, just wish they floated. Used to use them on my tool pouch in construction but the ^%#*&^ kept stealing them.

Before you buy you might want to check out the new LED lights, these are like pen lights or some are head lamps but they use the White light LEDs they will last 100,000 hours of bulb life and the drain on the batteries is a lot less so they last alot longer. some have 3 to 6 leds for the lamp
depending on what your light needs are. I have a bunch of the little one led units I pack around for extra light. There about 1/4" thick and 3/4" dia. And for those of you that are artzy you can get the red, yellow. green. blue or orange light leds ( the blue isn't to bad it can be seen at night 1/4 mile there that bright

The ones I have used were the smaller ones aa and aaa. If you are up on a ladder very high it won't survive the drop test. Got a little AAA that clips on my hard hat. It's handier than a pocket on a shirt. Have extra batteries handy They seem to go through them quickly. Like is stated in the other post they do have an excellent beam. Got the little one at my electrical supply house Fluke meter co. is giving them away when you buy a meter. BTW I have a AA maglite that I wear and the pelicans are a better quality of light beam.

I have several size AAA. Can't believe the strength of the beam. Quality stuff! Expensive, maybe, but I've not replaced a bulb in 12 years!

I've got 4 or 5. Take 'em on pack trips into the wilderness all the time. Left one on the ground & came back the next year- bat dead, but I'm still using the light. You can keep MAG lights. too heavy & try holding one in your teeth when it's -30* = NOT THIS COWBOY!
