I am looking for a new impact wrench and was wondering what others have and recommend. It will be used as a hobby tool but I would like to get a decent one. I am getting tired of trying to get nuts off with ratchet's on my tractors and trucks.

Thanks!

Craig

I bought a $69 Campbell Hausfield from Walmart.
It is the professional model. I have had a snap-on big impact that would not remove what this one does. I don't use it much but I think it is a best buy.

I would get a Husky from home depot. I got one, 500 ft/lbs of torque LIFETIME REPLACEMENT WARRANTY thats the main reason. About $120 bucks. I know 3 other guys that got em they love em too, only thing is that they are a little bit heavy, but if you aint gonna use it all day long, no problem

The IR 2131 has the best specs going. You have to watch, though, because people often get it confused with the IR 231. They look similar but are very different performance.

Thanks all for the imput. I have heard others talk about the IR-2131 wrench. That sound like a good choice. All I have to do now is to explain to the wife why I need a new tool.

Thanks!

Craig

I agree on the IR 231, and I have seen them on sale for as low as $119 in Harbor Freight, etc. It is a much better tool than my brother's Sears Craftsman (which was made in Japan, BTW).

I also have the I-R 231 or 2131 model, whichever. The Mac model is a carbon copy of the I-R, and will run the tail off a snap-on, CP,etc. However, gatractorman is right, they are not cheap, but nothing that is of excellent quality ever is.

We have a Craftsman air impact that has been around the farm since the 70's that still works great today. Dad also bought a Black and Decker electric impact a few years back. The air impact will loosen more and is lighter.

I like the Chicago Pnuematic tools and also MAC has some good stuff. Or if you can get one from the Snap-On guy at least they are warrantied.

I like My CP734 too, had it about 17-18 yrs... Sure wish I had a compressor that would run it the way it's suppose to be run! I'm a little short of PSI & CFM.. The I-R 2131 is a really good wrench too and I see CP has come out with a new 1/2" to compete with it...600+ #/ft., #744 I think it is.

Hi Craig,
Do you want air or electric? I have seen some fair electric wrenches, but I suggest you go with the better brands on electric.
I bought a 1/2" drive air wrench as my needs are similar to yours. There are a few things around my farm that it is too small to handle, but works o.k. for most jobs. The price of the larger drives seems to increase sharply. I don't know the brand of mine as I'm not at home right now, but I bought if from a auto parts store. It is some standard brand. I think I paid about $70 for it several years ago. Good luck.
