I broke 2 studs in the block of my H, and being an idiot that knows how to fix everything I drilled them out and tried the easy out method. Needless to say I broke the easy out in one of them and the other didn't move.

Any ideas on what to do next??

Steven

Talked to the machinist at Hedahl's today. He says he can get me all fixed up for around $30 or so. I'm not going to mess with it for that kind of money. By the time I would get the studs out with a torch I would be looking for a new block.

He really liked your guys' advice, thanks!!!

Steven

I own a machine shop and have for years been trying to teach the local "mechanics" not to do what you have done (no offense). You don't necessarily need an edm to do the job. You do need a VERY RIDGED set up. I usually use my mill and center where the hole should be and drill out the ezout and bolt with a carbide end mill. It takes a little time going through the ezout but it can be done. I'll open the hole until only the threads remain and pick them out with a scribe. Sometimes using a left hand drill bit the bolt will unscrew itself making the job a lot easier! Neal

Steven, Try finding a machine shop which has an EDM (electronic discharch machine). They can use this to blast /cut the old stud out, and leave the threads intact. Don't have any idea what they'l charge, but you should have a very clean threaded hole when they're finished.

Now how many times have ya heard DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME KIDDYS LEAVE THIS TO THE TRAINED PROFESIONALS . Try and heat the stud to a cherry red and let it cool down till you can touch it. now for the one you broke the easy out in it will be fun try the heat on it and see if you can litely blow the broke easy out out with the torch. Unless i am going to deck the block i don't screw with the studs i can't stand that much fun.
