Is there a tool or does anyone have a method to remove the carbon/wear ridge at the top of the bore on a MM engine. My 1st rebuild of a MM (ZA) and I'm not sure how to remove the ridge. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the input guys. This tractor has a pretty severe ridge and had 2 gaskets under the blocks. The top ring groove should be 1/8" but is really hammered out. Found that rings for an F20 are 3/16" wide so will regroove the pistons and use the wider rings. I've made a tool to remove the ridge that I think will work great. Will try it tonight and let you all know.

See if you can find a parts house that handles Hastings pistion rings. At one time they made a set rings for M.M. tractors that had step cut on outside top circumference of top ring to prevent contact with ridge ---- if its not to severe. Otherwise some mechanics just used 2 lower block gaskets.

If I understand you queston. Most automotive parts stores sell or can get ridgereamers. It has been quite sometime since I have bought one. They might be a bit pricey to buy and use one time. Might check with automotive machine shop to borrow or rent one.

I have a standard ridge reamer. However, the MM block does not have a bore all the way through. The bore is blind and the ridge is about 1/4" wide at the bottom of the bore.
