Looking at a model #5007NHK saw. 15.0 amps 5800 rpm Anyone have a Makita for homeowner use. Any good compared to Porter-Cable or De-walt. Thanks for any advice.

bart, i have made a living for over 30 yr. in construction. i use a makita everyday .dont know the model #, but this one is about 14yr. old and have not had any pboblems other that replace cord and switchs. mine is 7 1/4" and have had dewalt and found they are to heavy and big for use all day long, will wear you out. you should try to get the top of the line in what ever brand because the cheaper one will burn up with any amount of heavy use. have several older skill brand and have tried sears, the skill heavy duty is very good but the sears is a good trot-line wieght. dont get one where you have to push the little button to turn on the switch

P.C. gets the nod for carpentry, but those skill worm drives are hard to beat for general purpose, wood ,aluminum and steel fabrication. Mike

I have a PC and love it. My neighbor has a Makita and he loves it. They're all good saws, depends what color you like.

Hi Bart,
Whatever brand of saw you buy, remember the blades. I am somewhat of a sharp blade nut for all my tools. An inexpensive saw with a sharp blade will out-perform an expensive saw with a dull blade every day of the week. I keep several extra blades sharp and change them often. It really makes a difference. My father always cautioned that a dull tool will cut or hurt you faster than a sharp one. Good luck.

Yeah, but as a houseguest don't ever sharpen your host's kitchen knives without telling them. It can be a real surprise, I found out.

I have a comprable PC and love it. I have friends who are contractors that use them and are happy enough with them to recommend them to others.

Like most tools there are usually a couple of good tools in any category.

I don't know how true this is but I am told that PC is still made in the USA...not sure what others are made here...don't yell about my buy American pitch...I know there are other tools that are good that come from other countries too...but I try to buy products from USA when I can...my contry-men need to eat and work too.

I have a Makita worm drive. SIL has a Makita, several contractors I know use them. Excellent saws, in my experience.

Thanks F14. As Maine goes, so goes the nation. A little old fashioned but so am I. Thanks again.
