A long time ago I saw a mechanic using a screw type press with an impact wrench to install a new cross in a u joint. I have looked for one of these tools and cannot find one. Can anyone help me?
Thanks Roy

I have pressed hundreds of them using a vise.
To get the cup down psssed the yoke you place a nut between the cup and the vise jaw.
Works great and everyone has a vise.
Good luck Ron

An company called Tiger Tool makes one. They actually have several sizes available for autos through heavy duty trucks. Their site also has a demo video you can view. It's a great tool. Click on the link below.

Roy.
OTC stands for Owatonna Tool Company. They supply special tools for some of the manufacturers, so if you have trouble finding OTC catalogs in your auto parts store, you may go to the local Ford, Chevy, or Dodge dealer's service department. They will probably have a catalog or at least have the info so you can order one for yourself. Snap-On, Mac, and all the other tool trucks also carry them, so you may want to chase one of those tool guys down. Just stop in when you see the truck stopped at a shop. The tool guy will be glad to help you out. They are good quality tools, but pricey. Unless you replace a lot of u-jionts or ball joints, I suggest you check on renting one. They work very well, and make the job easier and safer than beating on the shaft and joint with a hammer. Definitely worth the trouble. Good luck and God bless.

Hi Roy. Used one of those at Thanksgiving helped Dad with the front end of his truck. It is also called a ball joint press. came in a plastic case and rented it (borrowed it from auto zone had to put up a deposit) Later saw it in a tool store for 100 bucks or so. Ask you local auto parts store and see if they have one.

They tend to be a bit scarse, but are available thru SnapOn and Mac.
Not many people use them any more cause all the new factory U joynts are glued in and require heat to come out.
Have you tried a Rent-All outfit?

I like the Auto Zone loaner program when it`s convenient, but if you need your own, Harbor Freight sells a couple of variations between $40 and $50. I saw one that a friend had, looked fine, but I am not sure of the quality. Lifetime warranty if I`m not mistaken.
