Just went through the exercise with a flat 8 volt battery. Found a dead cell so had to replace it. Got me to thinking about a way to charge it if it ever goes down again. Have a 6/12 volt trickle charger or a larger 12 volt only charger. Does anyone make a resistor or something in-line to convert the 12 volt to 8 volt. What about for 6 volt? Thanks, Rob.

YUP, it's called a headlight bulb.
Connect the headlight bulb in series with the battery and the charger, and set the charger on 12 volts.
The headlight bulb will act as a current limiting resistor and drop sufficient voltage.
You also might want to look into desulphrators. Don't go with the commercial versions, because they are very limited in their capability. There is a posting here from Don Denhardt on the subject, I have one of his units, and it is fantastic. I have already recovered a couple batterys using his unit.
