does anyone know how to control sand flow in a pressurised sand blast unit i seam to have all or nothing once pressure is applied.is this due to back pressure created by the nozzle

What brand of machine are you using? If I understood you you are getting "fullflow" or nothing?

ED The machine I have is made by ACE engineering and is a pressurised cannister with bottom feed valve for grit it is running a 3mm nozzle on a 14cfm compressor ( it has been suggested that the nozzle is causing back pressure on the grit valve and that fitting a choke valve on the blast line before the grit intake might solve the problem )do you agree.

Under my pressurized tank there's a valve that controls sand flow into the airstream. I need to allow a pretty good flow for it to work but it adjusts for moderate to heavy flow. This is a cheapie so I'd guess you have one too. I've worn out nozzles, changed LOTS of tips, and never noticed any change in flow.

VaTom Does you machine have a choke valve on the blast line before the grit valve I am told that if you reduce the blast line pressure slightly this helps to give controllable grit flow

Yup. This has another valve just after the water trap. I've always left it wide open to give max air flow where it picks up the sand under the tank. Only time I've closed it was for service, like dislodging a rock in the nozzle. I'll have to try it less than full open if it ever warms up enough for me to want to blast outside again. But I don't see why that would help. By the way, after two nozzle valves I gave up on control there. Now it's just "on". TIP's got a good looking one but I can buy a whole lot of sand for the price. I've got a pile of used barjoists that I'd intended to get to before it got cold. Always hopeful...
