RE large refridgeration compressor

i have 2 large fridgeration compressors 1 is run by 3/4hp motor the other is run by 1hp motor could a person make a air compressor to handle a paint sprayer system ?

In most, if not all, of those old units the suction (low side) of the refrigeration system entered through the crankcase and the reed valves were in the top of the piston. This would help cool the crankcase, remove any liquid refrigerant and allow oil to enter the refrigeration system. You will get oil mixed with your air. I used one for years but you need to filter out the air for painting. Considering the cost of building a unit with compressor, motor, tank and pressure switch, I would consider buying a regular air compressor. The refrigeration unit doesn't have the cfm that air compressors have and they run much slower.
