Does anyone here have any experiencewith the Generac Pressure washers? I'm looking one with a 6.5hp Honda with a 2500 psi 3.0gpm pump (Axial Pump). I normally stick with Cat or General pumps but I can't afford to shell out $1000 bucks for a washer. Looking for opinions, it will be used for farm use, washing tractors and ATV, shop floor....

I'd steer clear of them.

My BIL was a service dealer for Generac for a couple of years, had to quit because the pressure washer repairs were eating him alive.

The pumps seem to be very tender, especially if heavily-mineralized water is used. Replaced a lot of pump shaft seals. He also had a rash of cases of the pressure regulator knob/assembly breaking off the pump body on models so equipped. This makes a mess of the pump.

Against that has to be said that the motors seemed to be sturdy and reliable, and he seldom saw a Generac generator except for those deliberately abused by customers. One jester stored his 10kW unit (with the V-twin motor) on end in his garage. Didn't notice all the oil ran out of it, next power outage, started it up . . . Another comedian left the gas turned on - all year - and bent the conrod when he tried to start it with the crankcase completely filled with gas.

llater,

I used to see you on another forum, where you were a correspondent. I talked with you a bit on 300U's. Mine is still running fine. Really miss your posts, as you are one of the most coherent writers around. Irv from Howell.

Richard,i`m not sure about the Generac washers but i would stray away from the Craftsman washers.I tried 3 of them in the last year and took them all back for a refund. The first one the pump locked up on it,the second one while using it a mounting bolt on the carb broke and the carb almost fell off plus the unloader valve on the pump flew off of it. The 3rd one had a Tecumsie engine and by the time i got it started i was too tired to use it. I think the Honda engine would be a wise choice. There is a farm and home store here that has one i would love to have. It is 3000psi with the Honda engine but like you said big $$$. My own personal opinion i wouldn`t go less than 2800 psi. Just my 2 cts worth. Take care,Terry
