On ebay, I saw an NOS John Deere snowmobile touch up paint. One of those little bottles with the brush on the end of the cap. Would the paint still be usable? It hasn't been opened. Just wondering.

I still have, and use, paint that I got when "S&H" fleet stores were bought out by "QUALITY" Farm&F. what,15 years ago or more? it is a little "crusty" on top but once you brake through it, and stir well, it is as good as new.I paid a dollar a gallon must have gotten 20 or so gals.ya can't beat it for sloppin on stuff to keep the rust away.I wouldn't try to keep water base paint over a year tho' TRIED that ONCE, can rusted through, made a big mess in the attic LOL! I imagine it has a lot to do with how it is stored. I heard that on paint cans you should store them upside down so any crack you might have in the lid will dry the paint right there and seal the crack shut so the rest of the paint is still good.

The way I preserve enamel once opened is to use the bottom of the can to cut a wax paper disc. Whwn done put the disc inside making sure all air is out between the paint and disc, if stored without shaking there will be no crud next time opened, works good for me. Jake

A product called "blOxygen" works great for storing paints and finishes.
It comes in an aresol can and it contains a mixture of,nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide.
Put the lid on the can leaving one end slightly open and spray the blOxygen gas into the can for a few seconds, it forces the air out and replaces it with a blanket of inert gas,now pound the lid on tight and you can store the paint forever!
The bad news is this product does not work on latex.

I had a gallon of NAPA auto paint that I used about 1 pint worth and then stored it in the garage for 7 years. I opened it up and strained a few small chunks out of it, and sprayed it. It's sticking beautifully to my '72 Landcruiser.

I was amazed to say the least.
