I am looking to buy a 230v, about 230-250 amp mig welder and am wondering which one you would recommend and where to purchase it for a good price. I like the century 250 mig so far. I own a century 130 mig welder which I have been pleased with so far. I am also interested in obtaining some welding supply catalogs or web sites that you would recommend. Thank you for your help in advance. Dave

Miller/Lincoln both great machines. Color & price are the biggest diff. Whoever gives you the best deal.

I was in your shoes last winter. I was going to buy a Miller 250x but my local welding supplier (a friend manages the store) pointed my towards a Lincoln Power Mig 255 (he sell Millers too). I asked around about the Lincoln and was told that the Millers and Lincolns are very simular and pretty much equals. I rebladed my friends disk so he sold me the Lincoln at his cost which was about $1,450 I think, I also traded the standard 12' gun for a 15' for $25, a Miller was about a $100 more than the Lincoln. I've ran about 65lbs of wire through this welder so far and don't have a single compaint.

I prefer the miller brand also. Miller's parent company also owns Hobart. They are now produced in same factory.

I have a ESAB 250, which I have had for several years and have used commercially. They are built in Sweden and available at most welding supplies centers. You will find they are smooth starting, more so than Millers and Lincolns. Anyway ask for a demo, most places will give you one for a day to try.

If your interested in a miller they have a deal going on right now untill 12/31 on their new 210 model (replaces the 185). They will throw in a free spool gun for aluminum (470 value so they say), I bought one for 1150, You still need to buy a gas cylinder on top of that, but the regulater comes with the welder. I purchased (extra) the optional dual tank cart for mine as the welder has 2 gas ports. That way your set up to run either aluminum or your regular wire without having to change anything over.

Never used the bigger Century units and I am partial to Miller brand. I highly reccomend the Millermatic 250X as it is a very good machine and set-up nicely. Where to buy, that's a good question. I can suggest following the link below for starters. Site is under construction but go to the bottom of the page you'll find an email link. Tell them what you are looking for and that I sent you. Great people to deal with.
